3. Sunglass Lens Features

Polycarbonate lenses are 20 times more impact resistance than glass lenses and one third the weight. Also, the color is embedded throughout the lens, as opposed to a tinting process; it remains optically correct and cannot peel off or scratch off. These lenses also provide protection from 100% harmful UV rays. Polycarbonate lenses are lightweight and virtually shatterproof providing safety and comfort. EyewearPlanet offers hundreds of brands that offer this amazing lens material.image

Glass lenses provide superior optical quality and is the most scratch-resistant of lenses. Most premium glass lenses are made from distortion-free, borosilicate optical glass and offer the highest level of visual acuity available today. All glass lenses nowadays are mandated to pass a drop ball test that ensures a safe lens and with proper care, can last a lifetime. Serengeti sunglass lenses are made of precision ground and polished optical glass. Even in RX form Serengeti prescription sunglasses are made using Serengeti Corning glass formula.

Trivex offers the optical quality close to Glass but gives you the weightlessness of Polycarbonate and Plastic. Some sports sunglasses offer Trivex as an alternative to Polycarbonate without sacrificing acuity.

Plastic lenses or CR-39 is a less expensive option for lens material. It is half the weight of glass lenses; however the lens surface is softer and easier to scratch. Many fashion brands offer CR39 because of the ease in the tinting process.
